How to Apply for the IowaCare Program

To apply for the Iowa Care program, one must be an Iowa resident and meet citizenship/residency requirements.  Applications (English - Spanish) can be obtained through the Dept of Human Services or at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  Completed applications will be turned into the Dept of Human Services. The Dept of Human Services has up to 30 days to process the application.  You MAY be required to supply proof of citizenship/identity.  The Iowa Care program provides limited health care coverage to qualified individuals that lack access to or do not qualify for any other type of health care coverage. To qualify, the applicants’ household income must be within 200% of the federal poverty level or be below 300% for pregnant women with medical expenses that would bring their countable income to below 200% of the federal poverty level.
