How can I support Broadlawns?
Making Dreams Come True
Cash donations are always appreciated. Additional options can also provide significant tax benefits.
- Making gifts of highly appreciated stock or property
- Naming Broadlawns Medical Center as the beneficiary designation on a life insurance policy or investment. Woud you consider a percentage of the value (even 5%) after designations to your family.
- Including Broadlawns in your will. The official language to name Broadlawns Medical Center Foundation in your will is as follows, "I, {name}, of {city, state, zip}, give, devise and bequeath to Broadlawns Medical Center Foundation, Inc. {written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property} for its unrestricted (or restricted) use and purpose."
- Contributing to the Broadlawns Medical Center Foundation Fund at the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation
Broadlawns Medical Center Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) organization, and your gift is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. You can make donations throughout the year or during special fund drives, such as the annual Circle of Caring campaign, employee-sponsored fundraisers or by supporting our events.
May I use a credit card for my donation?
Yes. Credit card donations are accepted online or via phone call at 515.282.3200. We accept VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.
May I make a contribution to a specific campaign at Broadlawns?
Yes, simply indicate how and where you would like your gift to be used. We recommend noting your wishes on the memo line of your check. We invite you to call us with your questions to discuss further details or to develop your own giving opportunity.
For example, the Broadlawns Medical Center Foundation Fund and Endow Iowa are endowment funds with the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation. This recently formed partnership will provide care for our patients in the years to come. A portion of the annual interest will be used to provide charitable care, while the body of the fund will remain untouched.
For more information, contact the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation at http://www.desmoinesfoundation.org/.
May I memorialize or honor a loved one with my donation?
Yes, and what a wonderful way to do so! Please write the name of the individual to be honored in the memo line of the check. Memorial gifts are a nice way to remember friends and family who have passed on.
A gift in honor of a special occasion is the perfect gift for someone who has everything!
Will the family or person honored be notified?
Yes. We send a letter to the designated person and/or their family, which includes the names of those who have made a contribution in honor or memory of a loved one. We request that you include their address information so we are able to send the appropriate letter. Your specific donation amount will not be shared.
May I make a contribution directly to a staff person?
No, please don’t. Individuals cannot accept a contribution directly. We suggest honoring an outstanding staff person my making a “Broadlawns Hero” gift to the Broadlawns Medical Center Foundation. Be sure to give us their name and we will send a letter to your named hero or department, notifying them of your gift in their honor as well as recognition in our newsletter. What a nice way to recognize excellent care with a tax-deductible gift. (Note: Staff members and employees are never allowed to accept compensation or tips from patients, clients and/or their families.)
Will I receive a thank you letter or receipt?
Yes. All contributions are recognized with a letter of appreciation that includes a receipt for your records. Our IRS EIN is 42-1527407.
In what other ways may I make contributions to Broadlawns?
Broadlawns also accepts in-kind donations, please contact us at 515.282.5755 for more details. Not all items can be accepted. For example, due to our infection precautions we are only able to accept new items such as clothing, books and stuffed animals.
