Broadlawns responds to demand for care in Polk County
Des Moines, IA – October 2013 – Broadlawns Medical Center’s commitment to coordinated care and conveniently- located services continues with the opening of a new Oncology Hematology Clinic October 14.
Focused on the treatment of cancers and blood disorders, as well as chemotherapy care, the new clinic has a growing team of specialists and services. Recent hires include Dr. Brad Lair, M.D. and Julie Schuck, ARNP, who join a team of dedicated specialists and caregivers already at Broadlawns.
The clinic, located on the 2nd floor of the west side of the Broadlawns main hospital in
Des Moines, is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. helping area patients receive high-quality, cost-effective care without having to travel.
“We were referring more than 100 patients a quarter to Iowa City for care,” shared Kristina Harlow, Broadlawns Clinical Nurse Manager. “Now these patients and others will have the care they need near family and friends without the additional stress and expense of traveling several hours.”
“Patients of the clinic will benefit from a multidisciplinary approach,” said Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President Vincent Mandracchia. “Whether they have blood disorders or cancer, our provider staff will work together to ensure a quality treatment plan that is coordinated, compassionate and cost-effective.”
In addition to the expanded hours and larger team, Broadlawns is also planning to add a lab and pharmacy in the clinic so patients can have their labs, chemo and other possible needs taken care from the convenience of one location. The clinic phone number is (515) 282-8290.
