Broadlawns Hosts Forum to Meet Board Candidates

DES MOINES, Iowa (Oct 13, 2010) --Broadlawns Medical Center will host an open public forum to allow voters an opportunity to meet the five candidates who are running for a seat on the medical center's board of trustees.

The free forum is scheduled for Wednesday, October 20, 2010, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Hunsaker Humanitarian Room on the fourth floor of Broadlawns Medical Center. Polk County voters are invited to attend the event, which will be moderated by ABC5 News reporter Christina Palladino.

Broadlawns Medical Center is a publicly funded community hospital, governed by an elected board of seven trustees. The board has three open seats due to terms ending for three current trustees. Trustees are elected for six-year terms. Citizens of Polk County will be able to vote in the general election on Nov. 2, 2010.

Broadlawns Medical Center first opened its doors as a hospital to the residents of Polk County on April 13, 1924. Over the years, Broadlawns has adapted to the changing demands of public health care, yet remained true to its mission of offering quality health services to all Polk County residents and training tomorrow’s health care professionals. Today Broadlawns Medical Center is composed of:

  • An acute care community hospital serving medical, surgical, mental health and primary care needs
  • A 60-member physician practice overseeing numerous specialty clinics and outpatient services
  • A Family Medicine Residency Program that graduates physician leaders who today serve in 22 of Iowa’s 99 counties
