Broadlawns Pharmacist Director Honored for Teaching

University of Iowa Honors CoraLynn Trewet, PharmD for Outstanding Teaching

Des Moines, February 15, 2008 – CoraLynn Trewet, MS, PharmD, BCPS was honored by the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy for outstanding teaching during the past academic year. She is the recipient of the Faculty Preceptor of the Year award. The award winners are selected based on composite student evaluations of the preceptors and the teaching sites. Preceptors serve as mentors to the fourth-year pharmacy students during the students’ clinical clerkships.

Trewet is the clinical pharmacist with the Broadlawns Medical Center’s Family Medicine Residency Program. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Drake University. Trewet, a Professor of Pharmacy for The University of Iowa, is a national officer for the American Pharmacists Association. She is board certified in pharmacotherapy and speacilizes in diabetes, cholesterol and anticoagulation.

With a history that reaches back to 1903 as a community health center, Broadlawns Medical Center first opened its doors as a hospital to the residents of Polk County on April 13, 1924. Over the years, Broadlawns has adapted to the changing demands of public health care, yet remained true to its mission of offering quality health services to all Polk County residents and training tomorrow’s health care professionals. Today, Broadlawns Medical Center is composed of:

  • An acute care community hospital serving medical, surgical, mental health and primary care needs
  • A 60-member physician practice overseeing numerous specialty clinics and outpatient services
  • A Family Medicine Residency Program that graduates physician leaders who today serve in 22 of Iowa’s 99 counties
