Public Invited to Exhibits, Seminars and Tour of Birthing Center

Broadlawns Medical Center Hosts Baby Fair

DES MOINES, Iowa (April 15, 2009) – The public is invited to attend a baby fair at Broadlawns Medical Center on Saturday, April 18 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Broadlawns is co-sponsoring the admission-free fair with Babies R Us. The fair will be held in the Hunsaker Conference Room on the fourth floor of the hospital, which is located at 1801 Hickman Road.

Exhibitors include baby fair co-sponsor Babies R Us, Catholic Charities, Child Care Resource and Referral of Central Iowa, Des Moines Public Library, March of Dimes, Moms of Multiples, Pampered Chef and others. Free educational seminars will be held in the Ingersoll Conference Room on the ground level of the hospital. Topics include "Car Seat and Home Safety" at 10:30 a.m. and "Breastfeeding" at 12:30 p.m. Guests are also invited to tour the Family Birthing Center at Broadlawns.

With a history as a community health center dating back to 1903, Broadlawns Medical Center first opened its doors as a hospital to the residents of Polk County on April 13, 1924. Over the years, Broadlawns has adapted to the changing demands of public health care and remained true to its mission of offering quality health services to all Polk County residents and training tomorrow’s health care professionals.

Today, Broadlawns Medical Center is composed of:

  • An acute care community hospital serving medical, surgical, mental health and primary care needs.
  • A 60-member physician practice overseeing numerous specialty clinics and outpatient services.
  • A family medicine residency program that graduates physician leaders who serve communities across Iowa and the country.
