Broadlawns Medical Center To Fill Open Position on Board of Trustees
DES MOINES, Iowa (April 27, 2009) – Broadlawns Medical Center announced today the resignation of Karen Ellis from its Board of Trustees. Ellis was elected to the Broadlawns Medical Center Board of Trustees in 2006. The board of trustees thanked her for her dedicated service and commitment to the Broadlawns mission.
Ellis’ resignation creates an open trustee position on the board. Per Iowa Code, vacancies on the board of trustees may be filled by appointment by the remaining members of the board of trustees. Any citizen of Polk County who is interested in serving on the Broadlawns Medical Center Board of Trustees should submit a letter of interest and/or curriculum vitae before June 1, 2009, to Lori Wahman, Board Manager at 1801 Hickman Road, Des Moines, IA 50314.
Persons or spouses of persons with medical or special staff privileges at the hospital are not eligible to serve on the board of trustees. Also exempt from eligibility is anyone, as well as their spouses, who receives direct or indirect compensation in an amount greater than $1500 in a calendar year from the hospital or direct or indirect compensation in an amount greater than $1500 in a calendar year from a person contracting for services with the hospital.
With a history as a community health center dating back to 1903, Broadlawns Medical Center first opened its doors as a hospital to the residents of Polk County on April 13, 1924. Over the years, Broadlawns has adapted to the changing demands of public health care and remained true to its mission of offering quality health services to all Polk County residents and training tomorrow’s health care professionals.
Today, Broadlawns Medical Center is composed of:
- An acute care community hospital serving medical, surgical, mental health and primary care needs.
- A 60-member physician practice overseeing numerous specialty clinics and outpatient services.
- A family medicine residency program that graduates physician leaders who serve communities across Iowa and the country.
