Broadlawns Medical Center Adds Podiatric Surgeon

Des Moines, Sept. 8, 2009 – Broadlawns Medical Center announced that Mica Murdoch, DPM, has joined its podiatry department led by Denise Mandi, DPM.Mica Murdoch, DPM

Murdoch, a native of Idaho, graduated from Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. He completed a three-year podiatric medicine and surgery residency program at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, NY.

“Dr. Murdoch comes to Broadlawns as a young physician who is well trained and keenly aware of the needs of patients. He brings a desire to make a positive difference in the delivery of quality healthcare” said Vincent Mandracchia, DPM, MHA, chief medical officer at Broadlawns. “I am very happy to have him as a member of the Broadlawns provider family.”

Murdoch was introduced to podiatry by an uncle who was a podiatrist. He chose to study medicine at DMU because of its excellent reputation. When presented with an opportunity to come back to Des Moines to practice at Broadlawns, he and his wife jumped at the offer.

“I am excited to be working with Dr. Mandi and Dr. Mandracchia,” said Murdoch. “I have a great deal of respect for the work they are accomplishing in our field at Broadlawns. This is a professional opportunity unlike anywhere else. Plus we liked the city of Des Moines when we were here before,” added Murdoch. “It’s a good place to raise our family.”

Celebrating its 85th anniversary this year, Broadlawns Medical Center first opened its doors as a hospital to the residents of Polk County on April 13, 1924. Over the years, the hospital has adapted to the changing demands of public health care, yet remained true to its mission of offering quality health services to all Polk County residents and training tomorrow’s health care professionals. Today Broadlawns Medical Center is composed of:

  • An acute care community hospital serving medical, surgical, mental health and primary care needs
  • A 60-member physician practice overseeing numerous specialty clinics and outpatient services
  • A Family Medicine Residency Program that graduates physician leaders who today serve in 22 of Iowa’s 99 counties
