Susan Kirstein

Chief Nursing Officer

Susan Kirstein is proud to have been a Broadlawns nurse for the past 20 years. She has served in the positions of staff nurse in the Family Birthing Center and OB Clinic, Director of Women's Health Services, Director of Imaging Services, Operations Director for Acute Care, and presently as Chief Nursing Officer. In this position, Susan is responsible for the coordination of nursing services across the medical center.

Susan received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Grand View College, a Master of Science in Nursing from The University of Iowa, and is ANCC certified in Nursing Administration. Susan has served as adjunct faculty for Grand View College. She is a member of the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses and of the Iowa Organization of Nurse Leaders.


Vincent Mandracchia, D.P.M.

Section Chief, Chief Medical Officer

Podiatric Surgery

Dr. Vincent Mandracchia was born in Brooklyn, New York, and received his B.S. Degree from St. Francis College in Brooklyn.  He attended the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia and graduated with a DPM Degree in 1976.  His podiatric residency was completed at Metropolitan Hospital in Philadelphia in 1978.  He received his Masters Degree in Health Care Administration from Des Moines University in 1994.

In 1995, he joined the faculty of Broadlawns Medical Center.  Throughout his tenure with Broadlawns Medical Center he has worn many different hats.  He has served a the Director of Podiatric Surgical Residency Training Program; Section Chief of the Sub-Section of Podiatric Surgery; President of the Medical Staff of Broadlawns Medical Center; and Chief Medical Officer of Broadlawns Medical Center.  He has also served on numerous medical staff committees.  With all of these various responsibilities he has found time to be a consulting board member in Podiatric Medicine for the Hospital Medicine Journal, a guest editor for the clinics in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery – Foot and Ankle Trauma Edition and a consulting editor for the Clinics in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery for W. B. Saunders Publishing Company.  He continues to be a guest lecturer and consultant for Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, Inc. and Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery.

Under the leadership of Dr. Mandracchia, an innovative new procedure has been added to the care of podiatric patients at Broadlawns.  The Broadlawns Medical Center Foot and Ankle Team, consisting of Dr. Mandracchia, Dr. Denise Mandi, and Dr. Patris Toney, has performed several total ankle implant procedures.  This procedure is new to the Des Moines area.


Lynne Schaefer

Senior Vice President

Medical/Quality/Management/Clinic Operations

Lynne Schaefer has been with Broadlawns Medical Center in various management positions since 2001 and was appointed Senior Vice President of Medical/Quality Management/Clinic Operations in August 2006.  She is responsible for medical records, patient access, outpatient clinic operations, and corporate compliance. 

Prior to joining Broadlawns Medical Center, Ms. Schaefer was a Clinic Administrator for Partners in Health Clinics, Clinic Administrator of a Neurosurgery Practice, Registration/Patient Financial Services Manager for Mercy and Manager/Provider Consultant with Medicare.

 


Mikki Stier, MSHA, FACHE

Senior Vice President

Government and External Relations

Mikki K. Stier is the Senior Vice President of Government and External Relations for Broadlawns Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa.  Ms. Stier has held this position since October 23, 2000 to present.  Ms. Stier is the senior executive responsible for building an external network of business leaders and legislators who proactively support Broadlawns Medical Center and its mission, vision, and values.  Ms. Stier assists legislative decision makers locally and nationally in understanding impact of health policy issues regarding Broadlawns Medical Center and other healthcare organizations nationwide.  Ms Stier responds to various media inquiries, marketing, external relations, and health policy development issues.  Ms. Stier is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and organization of the auxiliary, chaplain, and volunteers.  Ms. Stier also held the position of Chief Operating Officer of the Broadlawns Medical Center Foundation, August 2001 to February 2005.  Ms. Stier continues as a member of the Board of Directors for the Broadlawns Medical Center Foundation.

Mikki has 26 years of progressive and diverse healthcare experience.

Ms. Stier has a M.S.H.A. from the University of Colorado; a B.S. in Occupational Therapy from Colorado State University; and is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.  She serves on several local and national boards working to develop key legislative contacts and health policy.


Albert N. White, CPA, MBA

Senior Vice President

Business Services

Al White is the Senior Vice President of Business Services for Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.  Mr. White has held this position since September 29, 2003.  As the Medical Center’s Chief Financial Officer Mr. White is directly responsible for the areas of general accounting (including payroll and accounts payable), budget and cost reporting, patient financial services (including financial counseling and billing), information technology, and general services (including materials management, environmental and dietary services).

Mr. White has worked in public accounting and contract management in addition to over twenty years experience as Chief Financial Officer for hospitals in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Iowa.

Mr. White is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Master of Business Administration Degree from Indiana University.  His professional memberships include the Healthcare Financial Management Association and various committee assignments for the Iowa Hospital Association.
