Broadlawns Makes National ‘Most Wired’ list for Third Year

Des Moines hospital leverages technology to provide affordable, high-quality care

Des Moines, Iowa – (July 10, 2013) – For the third consecutive year, Broadlawns Medical Center has been recognized as one of the nation’s “Most Wired Hospitals” by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine. Conducted annually, the Most Wired survey is an industry-standard benchmark study that measures the level of IT adoption in U.S. hospitals and health systems.

“We are absolutely delighted to be among the nation’s ‘Most Wired’ for a third consecutive year,” says Jody Jenner, president and CEO of Broadlawns Medical Center. “With so many changes occurring over the past few years we have been able to consistently leverage technology to ensure our patients are receiving affordable, high quality care.”

Broadlawns was one of only 25 hospitals to be recognized in the Most Wired – Small and Rural category and one of eight hospitals that garnered recognition in Iowa.

In recent years, Broadlawns has implemented the Patient Secure™ palm vein scanning system, the online patient medication management system, and electronic medical records (EMR) to help better meet the needs of patients. In the past year, Broadlawns has continued to increase their already high-quality patient care by further digitizing their hospital information system to ensure patients are receiving preventive and condition specific care from highly regarded physicians.

About Hospitals & Health Networks Magazine

Hospitals & Health Networks Magazine is published by the American Hospital Association. The Most Wired program annually surveys the status of hospitals and names its “Most Wired” award winners that lead their peers in four areas: Business and Administrative Management, Clinical Quality and Safety, Care Continuum, and Infrastructure. A total of 1,388 U.S. hospitals submitted data for the 2011 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study.  A hospital is considered small and rural based on bed-size (100 beds or less) or location outside a Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), as designated by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Organizations whose responses reflect development in the four survey focus areas not already recognized on the primary Most Wired list are Most Wired—Small and Rural.
