Heather Adams serves as General Counsel for Broadlawns Medical Center. In this role Heather provides legal advice, guidance, and support to Medical Center leadership, providers, BMC employees, and the Board of Trustees on the full scope of legal issues involved in carrying out the mission of the Medical Center. Heather also serves as Broadlawns Compliance Officer and its Privacy Officer.
Heather joined Broadlawns in February of 2023, following a 28-year career with the Iowa Attorney General's Office where she served as an Assistant Attorney General and lead general counsel for the Iowa Department of Public Health. Heather advised Department staff and its boards and commissions on compliance with a broad range of federal and state laws. She successfully represented the state in administrative, district court, and appellate court proceedings. Heather has legal subject matter expertise on a wide array of health care issues, including behavioral health; communicable and infectious diseases; maternal and child health; professional licensure and regulation; data privacy and security; and procurements and contracting.
Heather graduated with distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law after earning her bachelor's degree from Luther College, graduating summa cum laude.
