Broadlawns Medical Center is a 200-bed general medical and surgical hospital. As a patient at Broadlawns,  you can expect to receive the highest level of care from our professional, caring staff. Our health care providers and staff are dedicated to excellence in clinical care and devoted to serving the individual needs of each patient. Preparing for a Stay at Broadlawns Medical Center

If you are planning a stay at Broadlawns Medical Center, we recommend you call to pre-register. We'll help you take care of much of this process ahead of time.  Call 515.282.2331.

We recommend that our patients learn about living wills and powers of attorney before a hospital stay.

If you wish to share your protected health information at Broadlawns Medical Center with another party, you will need to complete a Medical Records Information Form. We will be glad to help you with this form.

Medical/Surgical/Pediatrics Unit (MSP)

The Medical/Surgical/Pediatrics unit is a 49-bed acute inpatient nursing care unit. The unit’s skilled staff specializes in caring for adults.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Our state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit specializes in caring for patients who are critically ill and require continuous medical and nursing interventions.

Family Birthing Center

The Family Birthing Center at Broadlawns Medical Center offers unique family centered care from friendly experienced staff. Each cozy room offers families a home-like environment during their stay. The Birthing Center has 8 different rooms celebrating family. Each room was decorated by Sticks and has a different theme.

Each room features:

• TV with DirecTV, the Education Channel and the Newborn Channel
• DVD/CD players
• Wireless Internet
• Personal phone (local calls only)

Our cozy home-like rooms allow for family centered care.

The Birthing Center also has a surgical suite and a secure nursery.

Broadlawns Medical Center provides surgical services in several specialties. Our experienced nursing staff ensures high-quality, professional care with a personal touch. These services include:

Inpatient Adult Psychiatric Unit

Broadlawns Medical Center Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit, also referred to as the Inpatient Sands Unit, offers a comprehensive multidisciplinary team approach to provide behavioral health care.  Our team members vary based on individual patient need, and may include the following disciplines:    Psychiatrists, Pharmacists, Nurse Practitioners, Physicians Assistants, Social Workers, Chemical Dependency Counselors, Nurses, and other support persons.

Emergency Department

Broadlawns Medical Center’s Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to treat emergencies that cannot wait for an appointment.

The emergency department physicians and medical professionals are prepared to treat a wide range of medical, surgical and psychiatric emergencies. Board certified physicians staff and manage the emergency department, and emergency department nurses are trained in advanced adult and pediatric life support and trauma nursing. Several registered nurses on our staff are also certified in emergency nursing.  

The goal of Broadlawns Medical Center Emergency Department is to provide timely access to physicians and emergency care. Our emergency department  exceeds national standards for length of wait and quality of care.
