Students obtain a working knowledge of principles of family medicine, including continuity of care, comprehensiveness of care and preventive care. Students see patients in the Family Health Center and discuss the patient’s diagnosis and care plan with faculty. In addition, students round on hospital patients each morning with the family medicine team and attend morning and noon teaching conferences.
Students participate in the primary care of patients in Broadlawns’ emergency department with supervision from our staff of full-time ED physicians. Students also attend morning and noon teaching conferences.
Both electives are accredited through the University of Iowa for four credit hours.
