"I entered the TEACH Program in June 2018. I had just graduated high school and to tell you the truth, I wasn’t the best student. Entering the program, I knew I wanted to be a Healthcare Tech, someone who helps others in need, so I knew what I had to do. In high school I would skip class whenever I felt like it, I would come in late and never pay attention, and I would never study for any test. In the TEACH program, I studied every night, showed up early to class, and I would ask questions, and my grades were very good. When I graduated from the program, I was hired as a Float Tech and I have been a Float Tech for more than a year now and definitely plan on staying longer. Also, I am currently on my first year at DMACC for my pre-requirement classes to go into the nursing program. My goal is to become a Registered Nurse."

"When I first applied to the TEACH Program, I had just gotten out of jail for the fourth time in two years. They told me they would take a chance on me, but not quite yet. I needed to figure a couple of things out and then come back and reapply. At that moment, I realized I didn’t have to be a minimum wage making felon, daughter of a 15-year long meth abuser and deceased alcoholic father. I could be much more. I reapplied to the TEACH Program and it was the biggest step I could have taken towards the path I wanted to create for myself. It gave me the opportunity to get straight As in college level courses, graduate on the President’s List, and make lasting connections and amazing friends. The TEACH Program gave me an opportunity that no others would give me – to overcome my past, break generational curses, and a reason to hold my head high. For that, I’ll be forever grateful."
