Current Projects and Fundraising Initiatives
The Broadlawns Medical Center Foundation is committed to raising community awareness and financial support for Broadlawns Medical Center. As the community hospital, we are dedicated to serving the most vulnerable populations and providing access to high quality healthcare to the underserved and at-risk individuals within our community.
The Broadlawns Medical Center Foundation is currently focused on securing funding for the following initiatives that will enhance our facilities and expand our servicing capacity.
The FOCUS Children’s Mental Health Program provides intensive outpatient therapy for Des Moines Public Schools students who have no other path forward. The FOCUS program provides youth with the skills and care they need to overcome barriers and complete their education.
Broadlawns’ TEACH/TECH job training program provides paid healthcare apprenticeships to at-risk area youth and adults. All program graduates are offered a career opportunity at Broadlawns as a CNA. Over 130 individuals have completed the TEACH/TECH job training program, and 48.5% of graduates are still employed at Broadlawns, earning a living wage.
Variety Children’s Charity Pediatric Clinic Improvements
The Broadlawns Medical Center Foundation is raising funds to enhance and expand the physical and psychological level of care for the Central Iowa youth served in the Broadlawns Variety Children’s Charity Pediatric Clinic. Funds raised will expand access to the number of children that can receive critical childhood screenings and services, upgrade the facilities for increased safety and functionality, and create a positive environment to alleviate stress and anxiety that often accompanies a pediatric medical visit.
Broadlawns Imaging Clinic Remodel for Early Breast Cancer Detection
In FY2021, 3,446 people turned to Broadlawns Mammography for affordable mammography and breast biopsy care. Funds are being raised to renovate the Broadlawns Mammography and Imaging Clinic to create a calming, modern healthcare environment. Additionally, funds will support the purchase of new state-of-the-art imaging technology, which offers lower dose radiation exposure and higher resolution imaging. These enhancements will elevate the level of trust, comfort, and caliber of breast imaging care that those in our county receive. The enhanced clinic and imaging technology with increased accuracy will lead to earlier breast cancer detection, diagnosis, and most importantly, treatment.
