Lance Schmitt Named Chief Nursing Officer for Broadlawns Medical Center

Des Moines, Iowa (November 4, 2021) – Broadlawns Medical Center (BMC) announced today that Lance Schmitt, RN, BSN, MBA has been promoted to the position of Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President, Nursing.  In this senior leadership role for the organization, Mr. Schmitt is responsible for managerial oversight of all nursing operations. 

Mr. Schmitt succeeds Susan Kirstein, RN, MSN, NE-BC who is retiring after dedicating 34-years of service in nursing and leadership at BMC.

Mr. Schmitt joined BMC in 2013 as the Director of Surgical Services and Intensive Care.  In 2017, he was promoted to the role of Acute Inpatient Care Administrator. Prior to joining BMC, Mr. Schmitt served as the Clinical Supervisor of Surgical Services and the Intensive and Coronary Care Units for Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, IA.  As an RN, Mr. Schmitt worked in Intensive Care and Surgery at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, IA and at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, IA.  He earned his Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, IA.  His Diploma in Nursing is from Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines, IA.
