Why I chose Broadlawns for my Residency

I chose Broadlawns for several reasons, but most importantly because of the people. I wanted to train in a place where the residents were friendly and supportive of one another, and where the faculty cared for the well-being and education of those residents. As I was applying for residency programs, I definitely felt that supportive and caring atmosphere here. I also wanted to have a great training experience, so that I would be prepared to handle anything that comes through my door as an independent physician. I know I can get that training here, with the wide variety of pathology from a diverse patient population, and with the skilled providers who enjoy teaching. Finally, my wife and I fell in love with the state of Iowa. We’re originally from Utah, and we feel that this is a great place to raise a family and have a rewarding career in medicine.

Hobbies

Lifting weights (I have a home gym in my basement that I recently built), woodworking, spending time with my wife and three (soon to be four!) girls.

Favorite Thing About Des Moines

It’s a smaller area than most big cities and it’s more spacious. People here are friendly, there are good schools for my kids to go to, it’s a great place to work and train as a doctor.
