Broadlawns Medical Center Nationally Recognized for Its Commitment to Improve Cardiovascular Health

DES MOINES, IA – September 15, 2025 – Broadlawns Medical Center has received one American Heart Association outpatient program achievement award in recognition of its commitment to reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke by improving blood pressure management. The award reflects Broadlawns dedication to delivering care that follows the latest evidence- and science-based clinical guidelines.

Nearly half of all adults in the U.S. have some form of cardiovascular disease, including heart attack, stroke, or heart failure. High cholesterol, Type 2 diabetes, and uncontrolled high blood pressure remain leading risk factors—but with timely diagnosis, research-based treatment, and ongoing education, these conditions can be effectively managed.

“This recognition reflects the high standard of care our teams deliver every day,” said Tammy Chance, D.O., Chief Medical Officer at Broadlawns Medical Center. “Managing blood pressure effectively can change the course of a patient’s life, and our clinicians are committed to using evidence-based practices that help our patients achieve better long-term health.”

As a participant in the Target: BP™ program, Broadlawns Medical Center was recognized for demonstrating its commitment to improving blood pressure control through standardized care processes, patient support strategies, and continuous quality improvement.

This year, Broadlawns Medical Center received:

- Target: BP™ — Silver+ Achievement Award, jointly presented by the American Heart Association and the American Medical Association.

“Heart disease and stroke remain the leading causes of death for Americans, and addressing blood pressure management is key for better cardiovascular health,” said Howard Haft, M.D., MMM, CPE, FACPE, member of the American Heart Association’s National Quality Oversight Committee. “The American Heart Association is pleased to recognize Broadlawns Medical Center for its commitment to managing patient risk factors related to high blood pressure.”
