Broadlawns Announces New Chief Medical Officer

NEWS RELEASE (Des Moines, IA) – The Broadlawns Medical Center (BMC) has named Tammy S. Chance, DO as Chief Medical Officer (CMO), effective January 15, 2024. Dr. Chance most recently served as the Medical Director of Rural Health and Quality Initiatives for Boone County Hospital. She received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines in 1995 and has been in practice for more than 22 years as a Family Physician.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Tammy Chance to Broadlawns and look forward to having her serve the organization as Chief Medical Officer,” said Interim CEO Dr. Jason Kruse. “Dr. Chance brings a wealth of knowledge and commitment to serving Central Iowa. With her expertise and dedication to our patient population, Dr. Chance will play an important role in providing accessible, cost-effective, and high-quality patient care for all.” 

Dr. Chance is certified under the American Osteopathic Board of Family Practice.  She completed both her internship and residency at Des Moines General Hospital.  Dr. Chance recently served as the Chair of the American Hospital Association's State Hospital Association Physician Executives (SHAPE), chaired the Physician Leaders Forum/CMO workgroup through the Iowa Hospital Association and recently completed her two term as a trustee of IHA.  She also has academic experience with medical students and residents through various leadership positions at Des Moines University including Interim Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs and Special Advisor to the COM (College of Osteopathic Medicine) Dean.  She has mentored dozens of medical students, nurse practitioner students, and physician assistant students over the years.  She is deeply involved both professionally and personally in community service leadership roles.   In 2016, Dr Chance received the IOMA Physician of the Year award.  She also graduated magna cum laude from College of St Mary in 1991 with her Bachelor of Science in Biology.

Interim CEO and acting CMO Dr. Jason Kruse will continue to serve in his leadership capacity, until Dr. Tammy Chance assumes the CMO role on January 15, 2024.
