What motivated you to become a doctor?

My father was a hospital administrator, so as a kid I liked to spend time with him at work. He would walk me around the hospital and show me the different departments. I was most fascinated with the laboratory and early on decided I wanted to be a pathologist. Although my choice of specialty changed over the years, I spent my entire life working towards becoming a physician, so that I could be in service to others during some of the most significant moments in their lives.

Why do you choose to work at Broadlawns Medical Center?

I have a passion for mission work, and working at Broadlawns allows my mission heart to do work close to home. Broadlawns' commitment to the community fits with my personal values.

What do you love most about your job?

I really enjoy getting to know patients and hearing their life stories.

What advice do you have for women entering medicine?

There is still a lot of misogyny in medicine. It's important to keep speaking up to call out discrimination. Keep supporting each other to raise up every member of the team no matter how much success you may personally achieve.
